Itinerary
We meet at 12.45pm for our Air Serbia flight departing to Belgrade at 3.10pm. We arrive at 5.05pm and start our drive towards Zlatibor and check-in at our 4-star Hotel Mona Plaza Zlatibor in Zlatibor.
We start off our day with an optional full-day excursion to Stopića Cave (extra), famous for its 10m high subterranean waterfall, but also for its climate. Later, we shall proceed to the beautiful Gostilje Waterfalls. We will later drive to Sirogojno and visit the “Staro Selo Sirogojno”, an open-air museum or “ethno village” known as the Old Village Museum. The ethno village displays a set of traditional wooden buildings, including a bakery, a dairy, and an inn, all in authentic form. The village of Sirogojno was declared a Monument of Culture of Exceptional Importance in 1983, and it is protected by the Republic of Serbia.
Today’s optional excursion will start with Zlatibor’s Gold Gondola (extra – weather permitting) with its impressive nine kilometres long route; it is now the longest panoramic gondola in the world. It connects the centre of Zlatibor with Ribnicko and the Tornik ski resort, which is also the highest peak of the mountain. After the ride, we head towards the village of Drežnik, where we experience authentic Serbian hospitality. We are welcomed in a local household with coffee, homemade rakija, and traditional sweet preserves – a genuine introduction to local customs. We then continue to the old village school in Drežnik, where a carefully prepared tasting is served. Each guest receives an individual platter featuring Zlatibor specialties: prosciutto, local cheese, kajmak, homemade bread, accompanied by rakija and raspberry juice – a true taste of the region. To complete the day, we enjoy a lively folklore performance. We don’t just watch – we take part, learning the basic steps of kolo, Serbia’s traditional dance. A perfect blend of nature, gastronomy, and living tradition.
Today we will go for a very pleasant full-day optional excursion, taking us to the Tara National Park, famous for its fascinating nature. We will enjoy a tour of Lazici Dam while observing Spajici Lake and the area where the famous Pancic’s Spruce was discovered in 1875. We will next make a stop at the tourist village Mitrovac where we take a walk-through protected woods along the Red Creek to the natural phenomenon Carpet Meadow. We will then go down the mountain to the river Drina and on our way back we will make a stop at the medieval Raca monastery.
This morning, we will start our day with another beautiful half-day optional excursion. We will drive towards Mokra Gora and enjoy an Archaic Sargan Eight train ride (included) by narrow gauge railway, passing gorgeous Tara Mountain landscape. We will visit the Wooden Town located on the top of Mecavnik Hill, a traditional settlement founded by famous film director Emir Kusturica. We will also visit the area of White Waters also known as Bele Vode, where we will enjoy the beautiful and calming sceneries of Kamesina river, pine tree forests, thermal springs and the small church of St. John. In the evening, we shall celebrate Christmas with an optional special dinner, excluding drinks.
Today’s half-day optional excursion will take us to Zlatar Lake where we shall first have a coffee break (extra) here, and later head towards the Mileševa Monastery, which safeguards some of the most valuable and most beautiful frescoes in Serbia, mainly the ‘White Angel’.
On today's full-day optional excursion, we will be visiting the Kadinjača Memorial Complex. The memorial complex is dedicated to the Partisan fighters of Workers' Battalion of Uzice who were killed on the 29th November 1941 in the battles of Kadinjača. In the afternoon, we will board the Drina River Cruise, where we shall take this opportunity to enjoy nature, history, and above all, relax.
This morning, we will check out of our rooms and make our way to the airport for our Air Serbia flight departing at 12.20pm and arriving in Malta at 2.20pm.
