Itinerary
We meet at the airport at 3.30am for our flight to Paris departing at 6.00am and arriving at 9.00am. Upon arrival, we are transferred to the majestic capital of France where we can enjoy a city tour. Later, we are transferred to our hotel – Ibis Style Paris Roissy Charles de Gaulle (or similar) and check in. Lunch & dinner (extra).
Early breakfast and we proceed to the airport for our flight to Peru. We board our Air France flight to Lima departing at 10.10am and arriving at 3.40pm. On arrival, we are transferred to our hotel and check in at San Agustin Exclusive Hotel (or similar) in Lima. Dinner (extra).
We start our holiday in Peru with breakfast, followed by a city tour including the Plaza Mayor, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. We then continue our way towards the Cathedral, with its splendid carved stalls, silver covered altars surrounded by fine woodwork, the Government Palace, the City Hall and the Archbishop’s Palace. We also visit the San Francisco Monastery which houses the largest exhibition of Colonial religious art in America. Our next stop is the Monastery of Santo Domingo, where we see one of the masterpieces of the Maltese artist Melchior Gafa’ – Santa Rosa di Lima. We have time for lunch (extra), and later in the afternoon, we visit Parque de las Agua (entrance included). Return to the hotel and dinner (extra).
After breakfast, we are transferred to the airport for our flight to Puerto Maldonado. Then, we start a trip of approximately two hours to Wasaí Tambopata lodge (or similar). The trip is initially by land vehicle for 47km of paved road, followed by 17 km of an off-road route that passes through settler’s farms and primary forests. This road ends in a small port in the Tambopata river where our motorboat will be waiting for us to cruise the Tambopata River downstream for approximately 20 minutes, headed towards Wasaí Tambopata Lodge (Box lunch on the route). During the journey we have the opportunity to observe various bird species, and possibly capybaras (the world's largest rodents), alligators, and other wildlife. We have an introductory nocturnal walk to understand rainforest ecosystems and see and listen to the insects, bats, frogs, and perhaps an encounter with nocturnal mammals. We return to the lodge for dinner (included) and enjoy the diverse sounds of the jungle on our first night in the Amazon.
Early wake up at 4.30am to begin our 60-minute journey upstream to the Macaw Clay Lick “El Chuncho” in the Tambopata National Reserve. We have the opportunity to enjoy the beautiful natural sceneries and wildlife of the riverbanks. At our arrival, if weather permits, we observe one of the greatest wildlife spectacles where hundreds of parrots and different species of macaws gather to eat clay, an unforgettable experience. We have breakfast while we wait for the macaws to arrive. Halfway through the morning we return to Wasaí Tambopata Lodge. Cruising through the Tambopata National Reserve offers the best opportunities to see capybaras, tapirs, monkeys and with luck - jaguars. After lunch (included), we have a short ethno botanical walk of 1 km to learn about plants and how they integrate with the ecosystem. We learn about medicinal plants and other uses that the native communities give them. We can see walking palm trees, sacred Lupuna trees, hollow trees inhabited by ants and more. At nightfall, we embark the boat again to make a nocturnal caiman search. Dinner included.
We enjoy a full breakfast before departure. Later, we are transferred to the airport and take a plane to Cuzco. Transfer to Costa del Sol Picoaga Hotel (or similar). Overnight in Cuzco. Lunch & dinner (extra).
After breakfast we make our way to the Sacred Valley to visit Pisaq, where the locals meet to sell their merchandise as they have done for centuries. We stop for a buffet lunch (included). In the afternoon, we visit Ollantaytambo, the great Inca fortresses and sacred areas in the Urubamba Valley. We board the train to Aguas Calientes and check in at the hotel – Casa Andina Machu Picchu (or similar). Dinner (extra).
After breakfast, we visit the ruins and tour the citadel of Machu Picchu with a private guide. In the afternoon, we return to Cuzco on board the Vistadome train. Cuzco is South America’s archaeological capital and is now one of Peru’s most popular tourist attractions. It has maintained its vivid legacy as the hub of the Inca Empire: Quechua-speaking Inca descendants can still be found in the centuries-old stone-walled city streets. Cuzco also boasts magnificent repositories of colonial art – fine examples can be found in the Cathedral and Museum of Archaeology. Upon arrival, we are transferred to our hotel and check in at Costa del Sol (or similar) for an overnight in Cuzco. Lunch & dinner (extra).
After breakfast, we start our city tour, visiting the Cathedral on the Plaza de Armas, the Santo Domingo Temple & Koricancha, the Dominican Church and convent built on the foundations of the Koricancha, which are the Incas principal religious buildings dedicated to the worship of the sun. Then, we continue with the visit to Sacsayhuaman fortress overlooking the ancient capital of the Incas, Qenqo and Tambomachay. Qenqo is a vast rocky hilltop carved into staircases, holes and channels, probably built to store the chichi (fermented maize beer) used in Inca rituals. Tambomachay is another fine example of Inca architecture made up of platforms, niches and fountains which still function today, as water flows down through them from a spring higher up in the hills. After breakfast, we are transferred in a private bus from Cuzco to Puno. Along the way we visit Raqch’i, Pukara and Andahuaylillas. Raqch’i is an Inca archaeological site in Peru located in the Cusco region, 3480 meters above sea level. It is also known as the Temple of Wiracocha. Pukara is a site of military ruins in Peru situated in the Cusco Region. This fort is made of large walls, terraces, and staircases and was part of defense of Cusco in particular and the Inca Empire in general. The name probably comes from the red colour of the rocks at dusk. The main attraction of Andahuaylillas is its baroque church dedicated to Saint Peter the Apostle. The church is nicknamed “the Sistine Chapel of America” because of the magnificent frescos that adorn its walls. Lunch and entrance fees are inclusive. Check in and overnight stay in Puno at Taypikala Lago Hotel (or similar). Dinner (extra).
After breakfast, we embark on a cultural journey to explore the island of Uros, learning about its indigenous people and traditions. We head out across Lake Titicaca toward Uros, a group of man-made floating islands constructed entirely out of reeds. The friendly Uru people are always happy to welcome tourists to their islands, and will share with us their history, culture and traditions. We take a boat out to the islands and learn how the Uru built their floating homes entirely out of totora reeds and rope. The islands initially acted as a defensive mechanism, and were easily moved in case a threat arose. The bottoms of the islands rot away fairly quickly, so reeds are being constantly added on top, allowing each island to last for years. Later, we return to our hotel in Puno. Lunch & Dinner (extra).
After breakfast, we start our journey to Colca Canyon. On the way, we stop at Tocra, over 4,500 metres, to observe the lakes with migration birds and take spectacular pictures of the Altiplano with lamas and guanacos, and continue to Pata Pampa (Pata-High, Pampa-Land) which is the highest point of our tour at 4,820 meters, where we will be able to see the Ampato (6,300m), the Sabancaya Volcano Smoking, the Hualca-Hualca, the Cordillera de Chila and the Mismi - the source of the Amazon River. We arrive at Chivay at 3,651 metres. Overnight stay at the El Refugio Hotel (or similar) in Colca. Lunch & dinner (extra).
Early start on this day. After breakfast, we go to the Canyon to visit Cruz Del Condor. Here we can observe the condors and have a look at the depth of the Canyon. We return to Chivay, visiting Pinchollo the Cabana town and then arrive at Antahuilque Viewpoint, where a wonderful 1,500-year-old terracing constructed by the Collaguas culture, before the Inca time, can be observed. We visit Choquetico viewpoint with the Tumbas colgantes – hanging tombs, and the litomaqueta – the terrace model drawing in the rock. Later on, we continue to Maca, a destroyed Andean community by an earthquake in November 1991. We visit Yanque with the most beautiful church in the valley where we can appreciate the mestizo style in the sillar, a volcanic stone. We arrive in Arequipa and check in at the hotel – Hampton by Hilton (or similar). Lunch & dinner (extra).
After breakfast, we go on a city tour of Arequipa to get to know the impressive beauty of “La Ciudad Blanca”, the White City. The tour includes sites such as the church and square of San Francisco, dome of La Compañía de Jesus, colonial homes, the Plaza de Armas and the unforgettable Convent of Santa Catalina, characterized by its narrow streets and different styles famous in the 16th century. The Convent of Santa Catalina, perhaps the most fascinating colonial religious building in the country, was until recently home to almost 450 nuns. Overnight stay in Arequipa. Lunch & dinner (extra).

Breakfast and later in the afternoon we are transferred to the airport where we board our flight: Arequipa to Lima, followed by the flight Lima to Paris Charles de Gaulle departing at 8.20pm and arriving at 3.45pm (10th October). Upon arrival, we are transferred to our hotel in Paris and overnight.
Early morning, transfer to the airport for our final flight from Paris departing at 9.50am and arriving in Malta at 12.45pm.
