Itinerary
We meet at the airport at 4.30am for our KM Malta Airlines flight departing at 7.00am and arriving at Rome Fiumicino at 8.35am. We will then have a walking city tour around Rome. We start by visiting the Vatican, a prestigious landmark in Rome, alongside St Peter’s Basilica one of the holiest Catholic Shrines. We will walk to Piazza Navona and the Pantheon, among other picturesque spots. We will then be transferred to our 4-Star Hotel Genio in Rome to check-in.
After breakfast, we check-out and make our way to Assisi, beginning our visit at the Basilica of Santa Chiara. Next, we will explore the house where St. Francis once lived. Before visiting the three basilicas where St. Francis rests, we will also pay homage to Carlo Acutis. Then, we will make our way to Santa Maria degli Angeli (Porziuncola) before proceeding to check-in at our 3-Star Hotel Panda in Assisi.
This morning, we will make our way to Cascia where we will visit the convent in which St Rita lived as a nun, the basilica dedicated to her and the basilica where the image of the miracle of the Divine Host is located. We will then have some time for lunch (extra) before proceeding to Rocca Porena, a small village where St Rita lived with her parents.
After breakfast, we will go on a full-day excursion to La Verna, where it is said that in September 1224, St. Francis received the Stigmata of Jesus. We will attend Mass and have some time to explore this picturesque site. We will also join the friars in a short procession in honour of St. Francis.
After breakfast, we will go on a full-day excursion to Loreto and Gubbio. Loreto is a pilgrimage site, well known for the Basilica dedicated to Our Lady of Loreto. We will attend Mass. After lunch (extra), we will head to the small town of Gubbio, part of the province of Perugia. We will then visit Piazza Grande and continue to the Basilica of St. Ubaldo, the patron saint of Gubbio, located on Mount Ingino.
Today, after breakfast, we will visit the Greccio, just outside of Assisi. Here, we will have a unique experience, seeing the place where, in December 1223, St. Francis created the first live nativity scene. This event is still celebrated during the Christmas season. We will attend Mass at the church near the cave where this event took place. In the afternoon, make our way to Rome Fiumicino airport for our KM Malta Airlines flight departing at 11.35pm, arriving in Malta at 01:10am.
