Itinerary
We meet at the airport at 8am for our direct Ryanair flight departing at 10.10am and arriving at Arlanda airport at 2pm. Upon arrival, we shall head to Djurgården Island known as a popular family destination, where one can explore a huge diversity of museums including the Viking Museum and the Vasa Museum which displays the only nearly fully intact 17th century ship ever salvaged that sank in 1628. On the island one can also find Gröna Lund, a fun amusement park with many rides and attractions. All entrances are extra and optional, and one is free to choose which museum/park to visit. Late afternoon, we will drive towards our 3-star Best Western Kom Hotel in Stockholm to check-in.
We will start our stay with an excursion to Gamla Stan, known as Stockholm Old Town. Gamla Stan is one of the biggest and best-preserved medieval city centers in Europe. We shall visit Stortorget which besides being the main square, is also the oldest square in Stockholm. Our day continues with a visit to the Royal Palace (entrance extra) which is one of the largest Palaces in Europe. The Royal Palace of Stockholm is His Majesty the King's official residence and is also the setting for most of the monarchy's official receptions. Before entering the Palace, we shall see the changing of the guards. Afterwards, we have free time to explore the narrow winding cobblestone streets with buildings dating back to the 16th and 17th centuries together with its unique boutiques and innovative restaurants. The area, more often than not, is referred to as a living museum.
Today’s full-day excursion will take us again to Djurgården Island for a visit to the famous interactive ABBA Museum (entrance extra). Later, we shall also head to Skansen which is the oldest open-air museum (entrance extra) in Sweden which houses a zoo amongst its lovely gardens. From Djurgården we will board the coach back to Stockholm.
Today’s excursion will take us to visit the Stockholm City Hall (entrance extra). The Nobel Prize banquet took place at the Stockholm City Hall since 1930. We will be shown the magnificent banquet and ceremonial halls and walk along the water at City Hall Park. Afterwards, we proceed to Drottningholm Palace (entrance extra) which is built on the island of Lovon in Lake Malaren, in a suburb of Stockholm called Drottningholm. The Palace is their Majesties the King and Queen's private residence and is surrounded by the lovely Palace gardens. Drottningholm Palace is listed as Sweden’s first heritage site in 1991.
This morning, we will check-out of our rooms, and we shall have a free day to enjoy Stockholm one last time. Late in the afternoon, we shall proceed towards Arlanda airport for our flight departing at 5pm and arriving in Malta at 8.55pm.
