Itinerary

We meet at the airport at 7am for our Ryanair flight to Lisbon departing at 9.25am and arriving at 11.55am. Upon arrival, we’ll head to the Belém district, where we’ll explore some of Lisbon’s most iconic landmarks and enjoy a chance to taste the city’s famous Pastel de Belém at the renowned Pastelaria de Belém. Afterward, we’ll check in at our hotel in Lisbon and take some time to rest. Later in the afternoon, we’ll set out on a guided walking tour through Lisbon’s historic neighbourhoods: Alfama, Baixa, and Chiado, discovering the city’s rich history, charming streets, and vibrant atmosphere.

After breakfast, we’ll check out from the hotel and begin our journey to Porto to board our 4-star river cruise – MS VIVA PORTO MIRANTE. On the way, we’ll stop in Aveiro, often called the “Venice of Portugal.” This charming coastal town is known for its picturesque canals lined with colourful moliceiro boats and the elegant Art Nouveau architecture. We’ll take time to stroll through the historic centre, admire the canal views, and perhaps enjoy a short boat ride or a coffee by the waterfront. After our visit, we’ll continue to Porto, where we’ll embark on the VIVA MIRANTE, settle into our cabins, and begin our unforgettable river cruise experience. There will be time to explore Porto’s riverside charm and lively streets either before or after dinner.

Today, we will begin our cruising journey on the Douro River, departing from Porto, the historic riverside city famed for its port wine cellars and colourful Ribeira district. As we sail, we will visit Leverinho and Folgosa, two picturesque riverside villages nestled among the rolling vineyards of the Douro Valley. Along the way, you can enjoy the stunning scenery of terraced vineyards, charming quintas (wine estates), and traditional villages that line the riverbanks, offering a perfect introduction to the region’s rich cultural and natural heritage. Optional Excursion - Porto

Today we will cruise from Folgosa to Pocinho, enjoying the scenic Douro Valley along the way. In Pocinho, we will make a short stop to explore the village and take in the surrounding landscape. After our visit, we will continue our journey, sailing onward to Vega Terrón. Optional Excursions – Coa Museum or Castelo Rodrigo Chronicles

Today, the cruise will remain docked at Vega Terrón, allowing time to relax or explore the village and its scenic riverside surroundings. One may opt to take the optional excursions offered by the cruise, or else opt to visit a nearby vineyards, or cultural tours of the area. Later in the evening, the cruise will sail back to Pocinho. Optional Excursion – Freixo de Espada a Cinta or Salamanca Sojourn

Today the cruise will set sail early, arriving at Pinhão around noon. The ship will dock for most of the day, giving guests the opportunity to explore this picturesque town on their own or join an optional excursion offered by the cruise, such as vineyard visits, wine tastings, or scenic walks along the Douro Valley. Optional Excursion – Mateus Palace

Today, we will set sail to Régua, arriving in time to spend the afternoon and evening exploring this charming town at the heart of the Douro wine region. Régua is known for its wine estates, the Douro Museum, and scenic riverside promenade. Early in the morning, the cruise will sail towards Leverinho. During this day, one may opt for one of the optional excursions of Guiamaraes or Braga, two of the main historic cities of Portugal. Later, we will continue our journey back to Porto, where the cruise will be docked for the final night. Optional Excursion – Guimaraes or Braga

After breakfast, we’ll disembark in Porto and enjoy some free time to soak up the city’s charm one last time. We then travel south to Lisbon, stopping in Batalha to visit its stunning Gothic Monastery, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Here, you can admire the intricate architecture, the Founders’ Chapel—resting place of King João I and Queen Philippa of Lancaster—and the remarkable Unfinished Chapels (entrance extra). We’ll then continue to Lisbon, check in at our hotel, and spend our final night in Portugal, with time to relax or explore the city’s vibrant streets.
