Itinerary
We meet our tour leader at Malta Airport at noon for our KM Malta Airlines flight to Zurich departing at 2.20pm and arriving at 4.45pm. On arrival, our private coach will take us to our 4-star Hotel Bern in Bern. After check-in we will join the tour leader for a familiarisation short stroll around the old town of Bern, Switzerland’s capital city.
After breakfast, our first optional excursion begins by visiting Murten, a lovely medieval town by the lake, known for its old walkable city walls, cobblestone streets, and scenic views over Lake Murten. We’ll then continue to Fribourg, famous for its Gothic architecture, charming bridges, and unique mix of French and German influences. Later in the afternoon, on our way to Bern, we’ll stop at the Rose Garden and Bear Pit to enjoy beautiful city views, followed by some free time for personal sightseeing in Bern.
Today’s optional excursion will start with a scenic drive through the picturesque Emmental Valley, with short photo stops to capture its rolling green hills, traditional farmhouses, and stunning alpine views. Late morning, we’ll visit the Emmental Show Dairy (extra), where we will have a guided tour through the Emmentaler Cheese Village, learning how Switzerland’s famous Emmental cheese is crafted, followed by a cream cheese workshop. In the afternoon, we’ll continue to the charming town of Burgdorf, where we will explore its medieval old town, wander through quaint streets and admire the exterior of the impressive Burgdorf Castle.
Today’s optional excursion takes us to the breathtaking Lauterbrunnen, also known as the Valley of 72 waterfalls, with its dramatic cliffs and cascading falls. Weather permitting, we’ll take a cable car and a narrow-gauge train (extra) up to Mürren, a picturesque, car-free alpine village at 1,650 m offering spectacular views of the Eiger, Mönch, and Jungfrau peaks. Enjoy a stroll through the village of 450 inhabitants or relax at a cozy café. In the afternoon, we’ll visit the impressive Trümmelbach Falls, a series of 10 glacier-fed waterfalls hidden inside the mountain. We’ll take a mountain elevator up to the middle level, then descend the stairs to explore the lower levels. Note: paths can be wet and slippery inside.
After breakfast, today’s optional excursion begins with a drive to Col du Pillon, where, weather permitting, we can take a cable car (extra) up to Glacier 3000. Here, you can experience the exhilarating Tissot Peak Walk suspension bridge, the Glacier walk and the Ice Express, to enjoy sweeping panoramic views of the surrounding Alps. One can also opt for some adrenalin rush on the Alpine coaster or take a ride with Sled dogs (extra cost). Later in the afternoon, we’ll continue to Gstaad, a charming alpine village with a pedestrian-only centre. Stroll along streets lined with luxury boutiques, fine dining restaurants, and cozy cafés, and admire the traditional chalets that define the village’s classic alpine charm.
Today’s optional excursion takes us to the charming medieval town of Gruyères, known for its colourful houses and cobbled streets. Here, you can explore the historic Gruyères Castle (extra), featuring exhibits on local history and culture, before wandering the village’s shops and cafés. We will then visit the Maison Cailler chocolate factory (extra) in Broc, Switzerland’s oldest chocolate brand, now owned by Nestlé, with an interactive tour and tasting opportunities. Before returning to Bern, we’ll stop for photos at scenic Lake Gruyère, set against rolling hills and the majestic Alps.
