Itinerary

We meet at the airport at 5am for our KM Malta Airlines direct flight departing at 7am and arriving in Rome Fiumicino airport at 8.35am. On arrival, our coach will take us to Castiglione del Lago, a charming town situated on the western shore of Lake Trasimeno. Known for its well-preserved medieval walls and picturesque streets, the town offers stunning views over the lake and surrounding hills. Visitors can explore the Rocca del Leone, an impressive fortress overlooking the town, stroll through the historic centre, and admire elegant palaces and churches that showcase Castiglione del Lago’s rich history and cultural heritage. We will have some free time, before heading to check-in at our 4-star Hotel Lido in Passignano sul Trasimeno.

We will head for our first full-day optional excursion to the beautiful Gubbio. Gubbio is renowned for its many historical monuments and offers visitors an unforgettable glimpse into the intricate network of narrow streets. At the centre of the city stands the majestic Palazzo dei Consoli. In the afternoon, we will head towards Perugia, the cosmopolitan and international capital of the region. Perugia was founded by the Etruscans around the 17th century BC. The centre is one of the largest in Italy and the main monuments of the city date back to the Middle Ages and the Renaissance. We will have enough time to see the main highlights of this city before we enjoy personal free time for sightseeing, shopping, and lunch (extra).

Our full-day optional excursion will take us to two important cities in Umbria. First we shall visit Assisi, birthplace of St Francis. Here, we will see the UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Basicilica of St Francis and other attractions that make this city unique. We will later proceed to Spello, one of the most fascinating towns in Umbria. We enjoy further free time before we make our way back to the hotel.

Today’s full-day optional excursion will take us first to Lake Piediluco, a picturesque lake located on the border between Umbria and Lazio, near the town of Terni. Surrounded by rolling green hills and small villages, it offers a peaceful and scenic atmosphere. Its calm waters beautifully reflect the surrounding landscape, making it a perfect spot for nature lovers and photographers. We will later proceed towards yet another gem, the Marmore Falls (entrance extra). The Marmore’s Falls were created by ancient Romans and are considered to be the highest man-made waterfalls in Europe. We will enjoy our time in this natural park whilst walking through various pathways, some taking you around the park, some leading to the top of the falls, others leading past a tunnel and towards and observatory – a rain coat is suggested since there is good possibility you may get wet!

Our last full-day optional excursion will take us to Civita di Bagnoregio (entrance extra) which offers a fascinating experience filled with breath-taking landscapes and ancient history. After crossing the famous suspended bridge, you reach the “dying town,” with its medieval alleys, tuff-stone houses, and spectacular views over the Calanchi Valley. The day continues with visits to small museums, relaxing in local cafés, and panoramic walks, fully immersing yourself in the timeless atmosphere of this unique place.

After checking out of our rooms, we will have some free time before we start our drive towards Spoleto. We will see the Duomo, considered to be the most attractive landmark of the town. Here one can find various paintings, including a 15th century A.D. painting belonging to Filippo Lippi. At the top of the hill, a medieval masterpiece, standing 220 meters high. We will then make our way to Rome Fiumicino airport for our KM Malta Airlines flight departing at 9pm and arriving in Malta at 10.30pm.
