Itinerary
We meet at the airport at 8am for our Ryanair flight departing at 10.40am and arriving in Madrid Airport at 1.30pm. On arrival, we will be transferred to Madrid, one of the top European destinations for palaces, restaurants and art museums. We will explore some of the city’s main squares and see important landmarks and attractions, including the impressive Royal Palace of Madrid. We will then make our way to our 4-star Hotel Novotel Madrid Centre for check-in.
We will board our coach and head off to the old town of Segovia, an important military nucleus in Roman times. During our visit we will admire the impressive Aqueduct of Segovia, one of the best-preserved Roman aqueducts in the world, and stroll through the charming old town with its narrow streets and traditional squares. We will also see the magnificent Segovia Cathedral (entrance extra) and the fairy-tale-like Alcázar of Segovia, which stands proudly on a rocky hill overlooking the surrounding countryside. We will also have free time to keep exploring this historic city, with diverse cultural traditions, where Moors, Christians and Jews coexisted for a long period of time.
Today’s optional excursion takes us to Toledo, a city with artistic beauty, one of the oldest cities in Europe and declared as Heritage of Mankind Town by UNESCO. It is nowadays a Museum City, where we shall admire magnificent architecture from different epochs, Arab, Jewish & Catholic. We will walk and admire the beautiful streets and monuments, such as the Cathedral (entrance extra), St Tome Church and Santa Maria La Blanca Synagogue.
This morning, we will check-out of our rooms and make our way to Ávila, a city that takes us back to medieval Spain. We will walk through the old streets lined with traditional Castilian architecture and visit the church and birthplace of St Theresa of Ávila. We will also explore the Cathedral of Ávila (entrance extra) and see the city’s famous 11th-century walls, one of the best-preserved medieval fortifications in Europe. We will then make our way to Salamanca. Upon arrival, we will check-in to our 4-Star Hotel Silken Ronda Dalba.
This morning, we will have some time to explore Salamanca, one of Spain’s most historic gems. We will visit the Plaza Mayor and walk through Salamanca University, the oldest in Spain, famous for its intricate façade. We will then make our way to Fatima and check-in to our 4-star Hotel Sao Jose.
The highlight of today’s programme is when we join pilgrims from around the world and participate in the International Mass during which there will be the blessing of the sick and the farewell procession, a loving Adeus farewell to the statue of Our Lady of the Rosary. In the afternoon by means of a mini train (extra), we visit Valinhos where we follow the Stations of the Cross near the little chapel. Afterwards we go to Aljustrel to visit the houses where the three shepherd children Lucia, Jacinta and Francisco used to live. In the evening, we participate in the procession Aux Flambeaux on the main square in front of the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Fatima.
Today, after breakfast, we offer you an opportunity to travel towards the north of Portugal on our optional full-day excursion to Oporto, one of the largest and most important commercial cities in Portugal. We shall visit the pedestrian shopping area and other interesting places.
After breakfast we join the tour leader for a full-day optional excursion to Lisbon, the capital city of Portugal. We will see the monument dedicated to Henry the Navigator, the Belem Tower, the Moorish Citadel and the façade of St Jeronimos Monastery. In the afternoon we go to Alfama with its streets decorated with beautiful tiles. We have some free time for personal sightseeing and shopping before we make our way back to Fatima.
This morning, we will enjoy Fatima at leisure. We will then make our way to Lisbon Airport for our Ryanair flight departing at 5.45pm and arriving in Malta at 9.50pm
