Itinerary
We meet at the airport at 5.15pm for our direct Norwegian flight departing at 7.45pm and arriving at Oslo-Gardermoen Airport at 11.35pm. Upon arrival, we will head to our 4-star Quality Hotel 33 in Oslo for check-in.
We will start our stay with a full-day excursion to Oslo, where we shall have a guided city tour, passing all main city attractions. We shall embark on an immersive tour of Oslo, the Norwegian capital, as we explore its vibrant central district. Amongst many, we will visit iconic landmarks, such as the impressive Cathedral, the majestic Parliament building, and the lively Karl Johan Street. One can admire the grandeur of the Royal Palace and the architectural beauty of the University of Oslo. The highlight of the tour is Vigeland Park, home to over 200 captivating sculptures that showcase the genius of Norwegian artist Gustav Vigeland. This extensive journey offers a perfect blend of history, culture, and art in one of Norway’s most dynamic cities. The afternoon will be free for personal sightseeing; where there will be the possibility to visit the museums (extra) on Bygdoy peninsula – Kontiki ship museum and Fram icebreaker museum.
After breakfast, we start the journey towards Sognefjord. We shall pass by scenic routes, and on the way, we shall visit the Borgrund stave church (entrance included). The Borgrund stave church is located in Lærdal, and is a masterpiece of medieval wooden architecture and one of the best-preserved stave churches in the world. Built around 1180, it features intricate carvings, a dramatic tiered roof, and dragon-head details reminiscent of Viking ship designs. The church provides a glimpse into Norway's rich cultural and religious history and is surrounded by stunning natural scenery. Its unique construction and timeless beauty make it a must-see for history and architecture enthusiasts. Upon arrival, we check in into our 3-star Stalheim Hotel in Stalheim, just in time for dinner (included).
Today’s excursion will take us to Gudvangen, where we shall take a minicruise (included) on the Narefjord to Flam, which is one of the nicest part of the Fjords. In Flam, we will take the Flamsbana panoramic train (included) to Myrdal. The Flåm Railway has been described as one of the most beautiful train journeys in the world, and is one of the leading tourist attractions in Norway. The train runs from the end of Aurlandsfjord, a tributary of the Sognefjord, up to the high mountains at Myrdal station. The journey features the finest aspects of the stunning scenery of Western Norway. From the comfort of a vintage train compartment, you can enjoy the changing scenery of the Flåm Valley. Before ascending into the more impassable sections of the valley, the train runs through agricultural landscapes, the old Flåm village centre and the old church. The train takes a five-minute photo stop at the Kjosfossen waterfall, where one can disembark and go out onto the platform. We will continue the journey via the Laerdal tunnel, which is the longest in Scandinavia. Dinner at hotel (included).
We check-out from the hotel, and embark on a minicruise (included) from Sognefjord to Bergen, which will take around 4 hours. Sognefjord, the "King of Fjords," is Norway's longest and deepest fjord, stretching 204km inland. Surrounded by dramatic cliffs, lush valleys, and glaciers, it offers iconic landscapes and countless activities, including boat tours, hiking, and visits to charming villages like Flåm and Balestrand. It is a gateway to some of Norway's most stunning natural attractions, including the Nærøyfjord, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and the Jostedalsbreen Glacier. We check-in at our 4-star Quality Hotel Edvard Grieg in Bergen.
Today, we will head for a full-day excursion for a Bergen guided city tour. Bergen, often called “The Heart of the Fjords,” is a charming coastal city on Norway's southwestern coast. Despite being Norway's second-largest city, it retains the feel of a quaint town with its vibrant urban character. Explore its narrow, cobblestone streets and visit Bryggen, the UNESCO-listed Hanseatic Wharf, a beautifully preserved relic of Bergen’s history as a vital trade hub between Norway and Europe. Surrounded by seven mountains and fjords, Bergen is the perfect blend of natural beauty, history, and culture. In the afternoon, return trip with the Floybanen funicular (included) on the Mount Floyen, from where one can enjoy a wonderful panorama of Bergen.
After breakfast, we will start our drive from Bergen to Oslo, passing along the majestic Hardangerfjord, the Voringfoss waterfalls, the Hardanger plateu, Geilo. The Hardangerfjord, Norway's second-longest fjord at 179km, stretches from the Atlantic near Bergen to the Hardangervidda mountain plateau. Renowned for its stunning natural beauty, it is especially admired during spring when apple orchards along its shores bloom. Key branches of the fjord include the Sørfjord and Eidfjord, with charming towns like Odda offering rich history and scenic views. This iconic fjord is a must-see destination for its serene landscapes and cultural significance. We shall arrive in Oslo in late afternoon, and we will spend our last night in Quality Hotel 33 in Oslo.
The morning is free for personal shopping and visits. Later, we head to the airport for our return flight departing at 3.10pm and arriving in Malta at 7pm.
