Itinerary

We will meet at the airport at 12.20pm for our Ryanair flight departing at 2.50pm and arriving in Lisbon airport at 5.20pm. Upon arrival we will be transferred to hotel Dom Carlos Park in Lisbon, for check-in.

During today’s optional excursion we will be visiting the Alfama district, Lisbon’s oldest area dominated by St George’s castle. Here we will find typical alleys, azulejos, laundry hanging from windows and hear the sound of fado music. We will then proceed south to the straight streets of Baixa district where we visit Rua Augusta, Comercio Square and Santa Justa Lift. We will finish the tour by visiting the old historic centre of Lisbon, the downtown, where one of its main squares is located. We will then proceed to Chiado district, a chic and intellectual shopping area where we will find A Brasileira Café, Praca Luis de Camoes and Sao Carlos National Theatre. In the afternoon we will have free time for personal sightseeing, shopping or a boat trip (extra).

Today’s optional excursion takes us to Fatima, known for the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Fatima. We will be visiting the Perpetual Adoration Chapel, the Chapel of Apparitions and the Basilica. We will have the opportunity to visit the wax museum (extra) as well as the place where the three children who experienced the Fatima apparitions were born in the hamlet of Aljustrel. Late in the afternoon we will proceed to Mira De Aire Caves (extra), for a guided visit of an extensive network of underground limestone caverns, formed over 150 million years ago. Famous for their dramatic stalactites, stalagmites, and underground lakes, they are one of Portugal’s largest and most visited cave systems. (Note – requires a descent only of around 683 steps).

In today’s optional excursion we will be visiting Tomar, starting with the historic site of the Templar’s Monastery (extra), located on a hill overlooking the town of Tomar, from where we can admire a beautiful panoramic view. Whilst visiting the monastery, we will admire the magnificent round church (Charola) and the Manueline style cloister with intricate carvings of Gothic architecture. After visiting the convent, we will take a short stroll around the Nabao river and the charming town centre of Tomar. We will return to Lisbon, to visit Parque Das Nacoes northeast of the city and visit the Oceanarium (extra) one of the world’s most beautiful, with over 8,000 marine creatures. One can also opt to take the cable car next to the Oceanarium (extra) offering sweeping views of Vasco da Gama Bridge, the second longest bridge in Europe.

Today’s optional excursion will take us to visit the charming town of Evora. a UNESCO World Heritage site, known for its Roman and medieval landmarks. Key attractions include the Temple of Diana, Évora Cathedral, the Chapel of Bones (extra) and the impressive Aqueduct of Évora. Late in the afternoon we are transferred back to Lisbon. In the free time following, one may opt to visit the Zoo (extra), one of the largest in Europe offering a wide range of exotic animals with more than 350 species.

Today’s optional excursion starts by visiting Sintra, one of the prettiest towns with fairy-tale architecture, historical charm and lush landscapes. Here we will have the opportunity to stroll through its centre and also visit one of the various palaces located in the area, Quinta Da Regaleira (extra), known for its mysterious elements and the beautiful mish-mash of architectural styles. It is also famous for the Initiation well. In the afternoon we will be heading toward the steep cliffs of Cabo da Roca, the westernmost point of continental Europe. We will proceed to the coast and make a photostop at Boca do Inferno, a coastal rock formation where the Atlantic Ocean violently crashes into rocky cliffs creating a powerful spectacle. Our last stop will be at the traditional coastal town of Cascais.

Today, we will go on our optional excursion starting with Nazaré enjoying scenic views of the beach and cliffs. We will visit Miraduoro do Suberco, the famous clifftop viewpoint, followed by the historic centre below where one can take a promenade stroll. In the early afternoon we will visit medieval Obidos, a town of cobbled streets, whitewashed houses and prominent fortifications. We will admire the picturesque squares and artisan shops and can also stop for a taste of the famous Ginja de Obidos, a local cherry liquor (extra). Our last stop will be Peniche, a traditional fishing town known for its rugged coastline, sea views, and fresh seafood. We will stroll along the harbour, admire the old fortress, and enjoy the dramatic cliffs and ocean scenery that make this town a favourite among surfers.

After breakfast we check-out of the hotel and head to the Belem district, where the following monumnets are found: Belem tower, Padrao dos Descobrimentos, Jeronimos Monastery and church. We will have time to taste the famous Belem pastry from the Pastelaria de Belem (extra) and enjoy this district before we will make our way to Lisbon airport for our Ryanair flight departing at 5.45pm and arriving in Malta at 9.50pm.
