Saturday 1st March | Arrival & Bonn
We will meet at the airport at 3.30am for our Ryanair direct flight departing at 5.45am and arriving in Cologne Airport at 8.40am. We shall proceed to our first excursion which will take us to the city of Bonn in Germany. Bonn is a small, charming city, set on the banks of the Rhine River. This is also the city where Beethoven was born and lived until 22 years of age. Here we will have the opportunity to visit the Beethoven House (entrance extra), right in the center of Bonn. This 12-room house is where the gifted composer was born in 1770 and today is a popular museum. We shall later proceed to check-in at our 4-star Maritim Hotel Koln.
Sunday 2nd March | Zons & Dusseldorf
After breakfast, we join the leader on a full day excursion which will first take us to a short stop in the medieval town of Zons on the banks of the river Rhine. Afterwards we will proceed to visit the beautiful city of Dusseldorf. Nestled along the scenic Rhine River, this cosmopolitan city is famed for its luxury shopping on Königsallee, the lively bars and breweries of the historic Altstadt, and the cutting-edge architecture.
Monday 3rd March | Cologne Centre & Rose Monday Carnival
We will dedicate a full-day to explore the city of Cologne which is certainly most famous for its Carnival (Koln Karneval). We shall visit Fischmarkt which is famous for its insta-favourite houses, and also Cologne Cathedral which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. In the afternoon, we shall also stop for lunch (extra) and proceed with a visit to the Hohenzollern Bridge – The Love Lock Bridge. We will then enjoy the famous carnival of Cologne which is renowned for its vibrant parades, colourful costumes, and festive atmosphere. The Cologne Rose Monday Parade is one of the largest carnival parades in the world, showcasing the city’s rich cultural heritage and community spirit.
Tuesday 4th March | Valkenburg & Maastricht
After breakfast, we visit the unique Valkenburg and Maastricht in Holland. Valkenburg, nestled in the picturesque Geul Valley of the Netherlands, is a charming town renowned for its rich history, stunning landscapes, and unique cultural attractions. We will then proceed to Maastricht on the southern tip of the Netherlands, which distinguishes itself for its medieval-era architecture and vibrant cultural scene. In its cobbled old town, the Gothic style church St. Janskerk and the Romanesque Basilica of St. Servatius houses a significant number of religious art. We will also get to enjoy the Maastricht Carnival, known locally as “Vastelaovend,” and is one of the most vibrant and lively celebrations in the Netherlands. Taking place in Maastricht, the capital of the province of Limburg, this event is steeped in tradition and marked by exuberant festivities.
Wednesday 5th March | Departure
After breakfast, free time is dedicated to enjoy our last day in this city before we make our way to Cologne Airport for our Ryanair flight departing at 10.20am and arriving in Malta at 1.05pm.
