We will meet at the airport at 9.20am for our Air Malta flight departing at 11.20am and arriving in Krakow airport at 1.35pm. On arrival we are transferred to our central 3 star hotel to check in. We will later go on a half-day optional city walking tour accompanied by our guide starting with the Bishop’s Palace, Wawel Hill, Wawel Castle and Cathedral. The castle was home to many Polish kings and queens. A walk up Grodzka Street leads us to the heart of Krakow, the Rynek Gówny or Main Market Square. There, the large Gothic Cloth Hall is the perfect place for souvenir shopping. We visit also the Royal Tombs and Sigismond’s Bell.
Today we will go on a half-day optional excursion to the Wieliczka Salt Mines, one of the oldest in all of Europe. Over the centuries, devout and superstitious miners have carved fabulous figures, monuments and altarpieces out of its salt walls. These amazing works have earned the Wieliczka Salt Mine a place on the UNESCO World Cultural Heritage list. Our route through the mine leads us through galleries and chambers on three levels. We walk down and a lift carries us back to the surface. We return back to the hotel and enjoy the rest of our time enjoying the festive atmosphere!
Today our full day optional excursion will take us Zakopane, a beautiful village at the foot of the Tatra Mountains. Here we will have ample time to visit the highlanders market where one is sure to find various goods on offer such as leather jackets, cheese tasting, to souvenir shopping. We will then take a short ride on a cable car that will take us on top of Gubalowka Mountain for a spectacular view of the Tatra Mountains. One can have a toboggan ride for the way downwards or use once again the cable. We will also have time to walk through the famous Krupowki street that is filled with shops and restaurants.
After checking out of our rooms, we will start our drive to Warsaw, stopping first in Czestochowa, a town of special importance to St. John Paul II. He stayed there six times as Pope and chose it as the place for the 6th World Youth Day. Jasna Góra “Bright Mount” is the most important Marian shrine in Poland and a destination for hundreds of pilgrimages every year. Its focal point is the Chapel of the Blessed Virgin and its miraculous icon of the Black Madonna. When the Pope came to Jasna Góra, he always made his way to the Chapel of the Miraculous Image where he would pray and entrust the Church and the World to the hands of the Mother of God. We continue our drive to Poland’s Capital City, Warsaw and enjoy a short panoramic city tour to acquaint us with the city before checking in our 3 star central hotel.
Today, we will go on a walking city tour of Warsaw starting at the Old Town, the part of the city that was carefully reconstructed according to the original plans after the World War II, and today it is listed as UNESCO World Heritage monument. Warsaw is the city of royal residences located all along the Royal Route. It leads through the most beautiful and fashionable streets and avenues of the city Krakowskie Przedmiescie, Nowy Swiat Street, and Ujazdowskie Avenue, on to Wilanow Royal Palace - the Polish Versailles. The rest of the afternoon is free for us to enjoy the city centre and to get ready for the festivities tonight!
After a relaxing start to the day, we will make our way to Nieborow, well-known for its Baroque palace. Nieborow Palace was originally built as a Gothic – Renaissance manor house in the 16th century. Between 1690 and 1696, it was rebuilt in Baroque style for its owner Primate Michal Radziejowski, Archbishop of Gniezno by Dutchman Tylman van Gameren. We will later proceed to Zrodla krolewskie Kozienice and enjoy a forest walk. The “Royal Sources” path is part of the forest education program of the Kozienice Forest District. Its location near the “Royal Source” reserve allows you to learn about the majority of issues related to forest management and nature characteristics of the Forest District. Wandering along the path, we will experience many aesthetic impressions, learn about exceptionally beautiful corners of nature, meet beavers and traces of their existence, drink water from the “Royal Spring”, learn how the forest grows and how to protect it from harmful environmental factors.
Today, our full day excursion will first take us to Zelazowa Wola - the birthplace of Frederick Chopin. This is a small village 60km west of Warsaw is a well-known destination for many visitors to Poland. It is where Frederic Chopin, the famous Polish composer and national hero was born and lived. The museum here displays some original furniture and other personal items of Chopin. On our return to Warsaw, we will visit the Chopin Museum in Warsaw for some extensive knowledge of his displays. We will then finish off the day with a visit to a Polish Vodka Museum were we will also enjoy some Vodka tasting!
We check out of our rooms and later make our way to Krakow Airport for our Air Malta flight departing at 2.25pm and arriving in Malta at 4.55m.
