Friday 1st November | Piran & Koper
We will start off our stay with an excursion towards the Adriatic Coast. We will first drive towards the oldest coastal town in Slovenia, Piran, where we admire its charming Venetian architecture whilst enjoying a walking tour. Piran is renowned for its colourful main square, medieval walls, venetian-style bell tower as well as its delicious fish dishes. One can enjoy lunch (extra) in one of the various restaurants. We will later proceed to Koper, famous for its interwinding streets, squares, and ancient city walls. Some of the main attractions are the Cathedral with its Gothic exterior and contrasting Baroque décor inside, Praetorian and Loggia Palaces, both being Venetian-Gothic style.
Saturday 2nd November | Maribor & Ptuj
Today’s excursion will first take us to visit Maribor, the second biggest city in Slovenia. It has a medieval centre, cobblestone streets and rich history linked to nearby wine-growing region. This makes it completely different from Ljubljana and western cities. We walk around and have some free time to enjoy Maribor before we proceed to visit the oldest town in Slovenia, Ptuj, which has been inhabited since the late Stone Age and developed from a Roman Military fort. We will explore its beauty in a walking tour through the town, and visit Ptuj Castle (entrance extra), the Provost Church, and the old City Hall.
Sunday 3rd November | Lake Bled
We will start off our day with an excursion to explore the area of Bled, known as the pearl of the Slovenian Alpine region. We shall visit Bled Castle (entrance extra), and then proceed to Bohinj, the largest glacier lake in Slovenia, situated in the region of the Julian Alps. We will take a cable car (extra – weather permitting) up to Mount Vogel and admire the stupendous view till we reach the summit. Before we head back to the hotel, we shall stop near Lake Bohinj to admire this largest natural permanent lake in Slovenia and take some picturesque photos.
