New Year in London

Dates: 29th December – 2nd January

London, Hyde Park, Winter Wonderland, Oxford, Stratford, Warwick, Camden Market, Covent Garden & Westfield Shopping Centre

We meet at the airport at 6 am for our Air Malta flight to Gatwick departing at 8.35 pm. Upon arrival at 10.55 am we are transferred to central London where en route we will have a panoramic London city tour to orientate ourselves. An opportunity to appreciate many important landmarks such as St. Paul’s Cathedral, Westminster Cathedral, Big Ben, Houses of Parliament, River Thames, Buckingham Palace, Tower Bridge, Tower of London and others. Later we proceed to our 3-star Hotel President. After check-in, we can later join the tour leader for an optional visit to Hyde Park (entrance extra) Winter Wonderland! Located in the heart of London in Hyde Park, come and enjoy the ultimate party this festive season in true Winter Wonderland style. It offers a wide variety of attractions, activities, entertainment, food, drinks and so much more, we guarantee there’s something for everyone! A spectacular event with ice skating, shows, roller coaster rides, street food stalls, festive bars and live music. When the evening comes around, Hyde Park is transformed by thousands of sparkling lights so grab your mulled wine, hot chocolate or stein of Bavarian beer and get ready to join in the festive fun (extra)!

This morning we start with an optional full-day excursion visiting Oxford, Stratford and Warwick. Our first stop will be in the university town of Oxford, a renowned centre of academic excellence. We will enjoy a walk through the old town’s narrow streets and ancient squares where time stands still. We then proceed to Stratford-upon-Avon. This delightful market town at the edge of the Forest of Arden was the birthplace of the world’s best-known writer, William Shakespeare. Free time is given to visit his actual birthplace (entrance extra). A half-timbered house that has been carefully furnished to recreate the interiors as how they might have looked during his childhood in the 1570s. We then make our way and visit Warwick Castle (entrance extra), on the banks of the river Avon, bursting with tales of treachery and torture, passion and power and above all fascinating people, times and events. Amongst the imposing towers and ramparts, experience preparations for battle, feel the weight of a sword, get a soldier’s eye view from beneath a battle helmet, see lavishly decorated State Rooms and watch the preparations for a Victorian party.

After English breakfast, today we can opt for a morning optional excursion to Camden Town Market. This is a diverse community of creative sellers, street food traders and independent stores next to the Regent’s canal. Camden Market started off as a small arts and crafts fair in the backyard of Dingwalls. Originally it was temporary and open only on Sundays, however, its popularity grew faster and today it’s the largest market in London. We will later walk through London’s busy streets where we will see many important landmarks such as the London Eye, the Tower of London and an optional River Thames Cruise (extra). Some free time to relax or for shopping in Oxford Street which is considered the centre of London’s shopping world. Holding over 300 shops, it is Europe’s busiest shopping street with sales starting immediately after Christmas (public transport extra). We will return to our hotel late in the afternoon and in the evening join the tour leader to visit Covent Garden. Located in the West End of London, Covent Garden is renowned for its luxury fashion and beauty stores as well as award-winning restaurants and theatres. Join the locals to celebrate the New Year in style.

After a late breakfast, we can enjoy London at our leisure. As today is the first day of the year, one can attend The New Year’s Day Parade and Festival London. This great parade starts at noon from Parliament Square and ends at 3 pm in Piccadilly. Over 10,000 participants, from over 20 countries take part in this festive celebration, auguring a prosperous and auspicious beginning to the year. We are free for the evening; you can choose to attend one of the numerous musicals performed in London’s theatres.

Today we will have a free morning for personal sightseeing or shopping. One can join the tour leader to Westfield Shopping Centre in Shepherd’s Bush by use of public transport. At Westfield London, there are more than 265 luxury, premium and high-street retailers from more than 15 different countries. Westfield London is a great place to buy everything from jewellery to cosmetics, sportswear, menswear and children’s clothing. There are nearly 50 places to eat at Westfield London. Later, we leave from the hotel, and make our way to London Heathrow airport for our Air Malta flight departing at 8.30 pm and arriving at 12.40 am (Tuesday 3rd January).
