Monday 9th December | Arrival & Riga
We meet at the airport at 3.15 am for our Ryanair flight taking us to Riga departing at 05.45am. On arrival at 10.20am we will be transferred to our 4-star Wellton Riga Spa Hotel. After check-in, we will proceed to explore Riga, the stunning capital city of Latvia. We will have a guided tour through the key points of the city and must-see sights. This picturesque area boasts cobblestone streets, charming medieval architecture, and a vibrant cultural scene. Wander through narrow alleys and bustling squares, and marvel at iconic landmarks such as the stunning Riga Cathedral (entrance extra), the panoramic views from St. Peter’s Church Tower (entrance extra), Freedom Monument and the central market.
Tuesday 10th December | Sigulda
After breakfast, we will board our coach and make our way to Sigulda. Nestled in the heart of the Gauja National Park, Sigulda offers stunning natural landscapes together with a rich history. We will have a guided tour and enjoy a photo stop at Sigulda Ruins (entrance extra) and the nearby Turaida Castle (entrance extra), both offering breathtaking views of the Gauja River Valley. One may even opt to go on a cable car over Gauja National Park from Sigulda to Krimulda. After our return to Riga, , we will visit the Museum of the Occupation of Latvia (entrance extra) in the afternoon. The museum’s collections narrate the history of three occupations that Latvia experienced over the last century.
Wednesday 11th December | Rundale Palace
We will start our day with breakfast and board our coach to visit Rundale Palace (entrance extra). Rundale Palace, often referred to as the “Versailles of Latvia,” is an exquisite Baroque and Rococo masterpiece located in the heart of the Zemgale region. This palace is one of the most outstanding monuments of Latvia’s architectural and historical heritage. Afternoon will be free to enjoy Riga and its Christmas Markets. Riga is transformed into a winter wonderland during the holiday season, with its charming Christmas markets filling the air with festive cheer. This city comes alive with twinkling lights, traditional decorations, and the delightful aroma of seasonal treats.
Thursday 12th December | Riga Zoo & TV Tower
Our last full-day excursion will take us to Riga Zoo (entrance extra) which is the oldest zoo in the Baltic States. It is located in Mežaparks neighbourhood next to the Mežaparks park, on the western bank of Ķīšezers lake. Riga Zoo houses around 4000 animals of nearly 500 species. Here, we will witness animals that are well-adapted to winter conditions. We will then be transferred to Riga Tv Tower (entrance extra), which is the third highest TV tower in Europe. It is an iconic landmark and the tallest structure in Latvia, offering breathtaking views of Riga and its surroundings.
Friday 13th December | Departure
We check-out of our rooms, have breakfast boxes on the go and make our way towards Riga airport for our early flight departing at 5.55am and arriving in Malta at 08.45am.
