We will meet at 6.20pm for our Air Malta flight to Dubrovnik departing at 8.20pm. On arrival at 9.45pm, we will start our drive towards the Montenegro border and head towards our 4-star Ramada Podgorica in Podgorica and check into our rooms.
We start off our stay in Podgorica with a half-day city tour of Podgorica, the Capital city of Montenegro and the official commercial and cultural centre. The name originates in 1326 and it is built amongst five rivers, the Zeta, Moraca, Ribnica, Cijevna and Sitnica. Most of the city was destroyed during WW II, so Podgorica is relatively new, with modern buildings at every step of the way and green spaces as well as parks. Our city tour will take us along the most important landmarks and we’ll also visit a Temple in Podgorica. The rest of the day is free for shopping and perhaps also to visit the spa centre (entrance, treatments are extra) which is situated in the same building as our hotel.
Our full-day optional excursion today takes us for a drive to Skadar Lake, located in the Zeta – Skadar valley. It is surrounded by mountains and it’s 7 km away from Adriatic Sea. Two Thirds of Skadar Lake is in Montenegro and the rest is in Albania. We will head towards Virpazar where after some free time to visit this village, we will go on a 2hour boat ride towards another fishermen’s village on the shore of the lake (Boat ride includes homemade fritters with honey and cheese, homemade wine and brandy). On arrival in Rijeka Crnojevica, we will visit Lipa Cave (extra), one of the largest cave monuments in Montenegro. The cave, with its beautiful and wild system of 2.5 km of passages and halls is a place you must visit while in Montenegro.
Another full-day optional excursion today takes us to the fjord-shaped Bay of Kotor – with one of the most spectacular landscapes in the Mediterranean. We will go around the town centre with its beautiful Romanesque cathedral, surrounded by walls and fortresses which are all listed as UNESCO World Heritage sites. We will continue our trip by driving towards Budva where we will have enough time to explore this charming town.
After breakfast, we will board our coach and go on a full-day optional excursion to Durmitor and Biogradska Gora National parks. Durmitor National Park is located in the northwestern part of Montenegro, surrounded by rivers Piva and Tara, boasting 23 mountain tops over 2300 meters of altitude. We proceed towards Biogradska Gora National Park, situated in the mountainous region of Bjelasica in central Montenegro between Rivers Tara and Lim and is surrounded by three municipalities: Kolasin, Berane and Mojkovac.
This morning, we will go on another full-day optional excursion, this time visiting Ostrog Monastery, the sanctuary of Montenegrins and all three confessions (Orthodox, Catholics and Muslims). Ostrog Monastery is a miracle built by nature and human interaction, carved almost in its entirety in a vertically positioned mountain cliff and is today the pearl of Montenegrin spirituality, visited by more than a hundred thousand pilgrims from around the world. (the group will be divided in separate minivans in order to reach the upper monastery).
Today, another full-day optional excursion awaits us. We will board our coach and head towards Ulcinj, the most southern town on the coastline. We will drive towards the Big beach (12,5 km long) called the ‘Montenegrin Copacabana’. Here we can enjoy various activities and opportunities (extra), including kites and horse riding. After enjoying ourselves here, we will head towards Ada Bojana, delta of the river Bojana which flows into the sea. It is suggested to take your swim wear during this day.
We can enjoy some time at leisure before checking out of our rooms by noon. We will then start our drive towards Dubrovnik. On arrival, we will enjoy a city tour, followed by free time in the centre. Later in the evening, we will proceed to the airport for our return Air Malta flight departing from Dubrovnik at 10.35pm and arriving in Malta at 00.05am, early Sunday morning.
