CUBA A CARIBBEAN ADVENTURE

VISITING

TUESDAY, 16TH JULY | WEDNESDAY, 17TH JULY

We will meet at the airport at 4.15pm for our flight to Havana via Istanbul. The flight departs at 7.15pm and arrives in Istanbul at 10.45pm. We will then board our flight to Havana which leaves at 2.00am and arrives at 7.30am. On arrival, we will be transferred to our Hotel Sevilla (or similar) in Havana, check in and have some rest after a long flight. Later we have a familiarisation walk and dinner included.

THURSDAY, 18TH JULY

After breakfast, we depart with classic cars for a ride over the Malecon, into 5th Avenue, Miramar. We visit the house of Carlos Fuster, next to the cementerio Colon, plaza de la Revolucion and callejon de Hamel. Return to Habana Vieja, drop-off and go for a walk. We will visit the 4 squares and have lunch in la Mina. We will also visit the museum Capitanes El Templete, Fortaleza de la Fuerza Real, Bodeguita del Medio, Convento San Francisco de Asis, Cathedral and the specialty shop of cigar & rum – Conde de Villanuevo. Return to our hotel, refresh and evening dinner in El Gijones and afterwards we visit the Cañonazo ceremony in El Morro Fortres.

FRIDAY, 19TH JULY | Breakfast and then we start today’s excursion with a visit to the house of Hemingway – casa Vigia, and later visit La Terraza de Cojimar, where he spent most of his time. We will have lunch at Las Brisas restaurant and after that return to Havana and visit the handicraft market. In the evening, we’ll have dinner in Porto Habana followed by a visit to Gato Tuerto for live music and dancing.

SATURDAY, 20TH JULY | Breakfast is followed by an excursion to Viñales, enjoying Cuba’s best natural scenery. We will visit the Cueva del Indio and Mural de la Prehistoria, have lunch in local agro-restaurant and enjoy the view at the Mirador. We will also visit a Vega de tabaco. Later, we make our way towards Las Terrazas, check in at our hotel La Moka (or similar) and have a free evening. Dinner (extra).

SUNDAY, 21ST JULY | Today after breakfast we will start off the day with an early walk in nature, sendero La Serafina a well known paradise with more than 70 bird species on show. We will have lunch at Casa del Campesino (extra) and afterwards have some time for a swim in river San Juan. Dinner (extra).

MONDAY, 22ND JULY | After breakfast, we depart to Cienfuegos, starting off with a short visit to the orchid gardens in Soroa. Arriving in Cienfuegos, we will have lunch in local restaurant and this is followed by a city tour where we will spot several fascinating historical sites and visit Teatro Tomas Terry, Palacio del Valle, Casa de la Cultura and the historic centre amongst others. Check in at our hotel – Jagua (or similar) in Cienfuegos and the rest day is at leisure. Dinner included.

TUESDAY, 23RD JULY | Today’s excursion will take us to Parque el Cubano waterfalls. We will depart after breakfast and upon arrival we will have a walk in nature, enjoy a swim under the falls and have lunch in local restaurant. We will then proceed to Trinidad via Topes. On arrival, we check in at Brisas Trinidad del Mar Hotel (or similar), dinner and in the evening we visit casa de la Trova for music and dance.

WEDNESDAY, 24TH JULY | After breakfast we will have a walking tour in Trinidad, Cuba’s best preserved colonial town, with the old part of Trinidad being a UNESCO heritage site since 1988. The town remained a major centre for trading sugar and slaves for 200 years. While going around exploring the town founded in 1514 with gorgeous brightly coloured buildings, we will visit plaza Mayor, the museum of Romance and the Cathedral. Return to our hotel for lunch and rest day on the beach. Dinner included.

THURSDAY, 25TH JULY| Breakfast and afterwards we depart to Sancti Spiritus, which despite having a wonderful colonial heart is well off the Cuban tourist trail. On the way we visit Manaca Iznaga sugarmill & tower, have lunch in Mexxon, visit the historic centre and later proceed to Camaguey. Check in at our hotel – Gran Hotel Camaguey (or similar) and have a free evening. Dinner (extra).

FRIDAY, 26TH JULY | Today’s excursion after breakfast takes us to Santiago – the former capital of Cuba, which has a fascinating history as during the Cuban revolution the city was a hotbed of guerilla activity. On the way, we visit El Cobre and then proceed to SCU, have lunch in local restaurant and check in our hotel Casa Granda (or similar). We later go for a walk in the historic centre and visit some places of interest like museum Ambiente Cubano (house Diego de Velasquez), the museum of carnaval and the rum museum. Evening is free & dinner (extra).

SATURDAY, 27TH JULY | This morning, after our breakfast, we will have a city tour visiting Moncada, plaza de la Revolucion, Santa Ifigenia, Granjita Siboney and El Morro. We will enjoy lunch at a local restaurant and later return to our hotel. Later that evening we visit Casa de la Trova. Dinner (extra).

SUNDAY, 28TH JULY | We depart to Baracoa after breakfast, visiting the eastern tip of Cuba. Baracoa is surrounded by a large mountain range, home to numerous rivers and the Caribbean’s highest waterfall, which gives the area an isolated and wild feel. On our way, we visit the Yumuri Valley, which is claimed to be one of the island’s most scenic valley, and well known for its flora and fauna as well as a variety of archaeological sites. We will have lunch at a local restaurant and proceed to our hotel Porto Santo (or similar) in Baraco. Check in and have the rest of the afternoon free. Dinner (extra).

MONDAY, 29TH JULY | After breakfast we start our day with an excursion to Juncal Recontra in the parque Humbolt, a park listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site for its site, altitude range, its wealth of flora and fauna and landform diversity. We lunch at a typical restaurant and then have the afternoon at leisure. Dinner (extra).

TUESDAY, 30TH JULY | Today’s excursion takes us to Bayamo. After breakfast we make our way to the capital of Cuba’s eastern province of Granma. Bayamo has a nearly five century old history since it was the second village in the archipelago founded by the Spanish Governor Diego Velázquez. We will have lunch at a local restaurant and check in at Hotel Royalton (or similar). This is followed by a city tour visiting the historic sites of this elegant and old city, where we will gaze upon the house of Manuel Cespedes and horse drawn carriages all over the town. The evening is free & dinner (extra).

WEDNESDAY, 31ST JULY | After breakfast we depart to Camaguey – the third largest city in Cuba and a UNESCO World heritage site. The city was founded in 1515 on the coast but was moved inland after 13 years of continuous attacks from pirates. The new city was built with a confusing layout of winding alleys and forked streets that lead to squares and piazzas. On arrival we check in hotel – Gran Hotel Camaguey (or similar) and lunch at La Campana de Toledo. Late afternoon we will have a tour in bicycle taxi and evening at leisure. Dinner (extra).

THURSDAY, 01ST AUGUST | Our excursion for the day takes us to Varadero. After breakfast we make our way to one of the largest resort areas in the Caribbean. En-route we stop at Santa Clara to visit the mausoleum and the historic centre. Lunch at a local restaurant and proceed to Varadero. Upon arrival we check in at Hotel Melia Varadero (or similar) and enjoy our free evening. Dinner is included.

FRIDAY, 02ND AUGUST | Breakfast and today we have a free day to enjoy the beach in Varadero. Both lunch and dinner are included.

SATURDAY, 03RD AUGUST | SUNDAY, 04TH AUGUST |

Early in the morning, we are transferred to Havana airport for our flight back to Malta. Our flight leaves at 8.55am and arrives in Istanbul at 8.45am on the 4th August. Later we have our final flight that departs at 4.50pm, and arriving in Malta at 6.20pm.
